Had an issue with a recurring pain and problem walking called Tuesday AM leaving a message. They got back to me and scheduled me in for review Wednesday AM. Agreed I needed another pain injection and double booked me for Friday to receive with time to recover before my flight ✈️ and cruise 🛳 so I would be able to walk and use rental scooter on board to better enjoy the trip for our 50th Anniversary. Most all of the pain is currently subsided and can’t wait to go. The service was fantastic as always. Thanks again.

We went to the urgent care at the Albany OrthoNY after my son was injured at school. They got us right in. Dr. Adam Suslak was very thorough and great with my son and even showed him the X-ray of his fractured wrist! It was a very positive experience. We have more follow-ups to come and I feel very comfortable going back.

Frequently Asked Questions

What conditions affecting the hand and wrist does OrthoNY treat?

OrthoNY provides comprehensive care for a wide range of hand and wrist conditions. These include carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, tendonitis, arthritis, ganglion cysts, fractures, dislocations, and ligament injuries. Our specialists also treat nerve compression disorders and repetitive stress injuries.

Evaluation begins with a detailed physical exam and may include imaging such as X-rays or nerve studies like electromyography. Based on the diagnosis, our care team creates a personalized treatment plan focused on restoring function, reducing pain, and preventing further injury. Whether care involves bracing, therapy, injections, or surgery, our goal is to help patients regain strength and return to everyday activities as safely and quickly as possible.

When should I see a specialist for hand or wrist pain?

Pain that continues despite rest, ice, or over-the-counter medication may be a sign of an underlying condition that requires medical attention. You should see a specialist if you experience ongoing swelling, numbness, tingling, wrist stiffness, or weakness that interferes with your ability to perform everyday tasks.

OrthoNY provides expert care for everything from overuse injuries like carpal tunnel syndrome and tendonitis to more serious conditions such as fractures and ligament tears. Early evaluation is key to preserving hand and wrist function, minimizing long-term damage, and potentially avoiding surgery. Our team is here to provide accurate diagnosis and effective treatment to help you heal and return to your routine as quickly as possible.

What non-surgical treatments are available for hand and wrist injuries?

OrthoNY offers a variety of non-surgical treatments for hand and wrist conditions. Many patients benefit from activity modification, wrist braces, splints, and guided physical therapy. Inflammation and pain are often managed with oral or topical medications, or through corticosteroid injections.

For nerve-related conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, we provide ultrasound-guided evaluations and nerve conduction studies to accurately assess severity and track progress. These tools help us determine the most effective course of treatment without immediately turning to surgery.

If you are not finding relief with home care or your symptoms are worsening, our team can help create a personalized, non-invasive treatment plan focused on reducing pain, improving function, and restoring quality of life.

Does OrthoNY perform surgery for carpal tunnel and other conditions?

Yes. When non-surgical treatments are no longer effective, OrthoNY’s experienced surgeons provide surgical options for hand and wrist conditions. Common procedures include carpal tunnel release, trigger finger release, wrist arthroscopy, tendon repair, and fracture fixation.

Our providers also treat complex ligament injuries and advanced cases of thumb arthritis using techniques such as joint reconstruction or fusion. Many of these procedures are minimally invasive, and can be done at our outpatient surgery centers, which helps reduce discomfort, shorten recovery times, and allow patients to return home the same day.

Our team works closely with each patient to determine whether surgery is the best option and to ensure a safe, efficient recovery focused on long-term function and pain relief.

What should I expect during recovery from hand or wrist surgery?

Recovery from hand or wrist surgery depends on the specific procedure and the nature of the condition being treated. Most patients begin with a period of immobilization using a splint or cast to protect the surgical site and support proper healing. Pain is typically managed with medication, and patients are given clear instructions on how to care for their incision and manage swelling at home.

Rehabilitation often starts soon after surgery. Physical or occupational therapy is essential for regaining strength, flexibility, and fine motor skills. Depending on the complexity of the surgery, full recovery may take anywhere from a few weeks to several months.

At OrthoNY, we support patients through every stage of healing, from the first follow-up visit to the final stages of therapy. Our hand and wrist specialists are committed to delivering expert surgical care and personalized recovery plans for patients throughout the greater Albany region and nearby communities.

Can OrthoNY help with sports injuries or repetitive stress issues in the wrist or hand?

Yes. OrthoNY regularly treats athletes and professionals who experience overuse injuries in the wrist and hand. These may include wrist sprains, ligament tears, tendonitis, and stress fractures resulting from repetitive motion or impact. We also care for individuals in occupations and hobbies that require fine motor control, such as musicians, artists, and skilled laborers.

Our team uses detailed movement analysis and advanced imaging to pinpoint the source of injury and develop a tailored treatment plan. Options may include rest, bracing, physical therapy, and image-guided injections to reduce inflammation and promote healing.

For those returning to sports or physically demanding work, we design recovery plans that include strength conditioning and functional training. Whether you are managing a repetitive stress issue or recovering from a sports injury, OrthoNY has you covered.

Where can I book an appointment for hand and wrist care?

Appointments are available at multiple OrthoNY locations, including Albany, Clifton Park, Malta, Saratoga, and other Capital Region offices. Choose the most convenient office, and our team will coordinate diagnostics, treatment, and follow-up with the same providers throughout your care.
