X-rays are quick, painless, and typically take just a few minutes. MRI exams usually last 20 to 45 minutes and require you to stay still. The machine makes loud tapping sounds during the scan, but you’ll receive ear protection and can communicate with the technologist at any time.
What should I expect during the imaging process?
For X-rays, a technologist will position you and take multiple images quickly. During an MRI, you’ll lie on a padded table that slides into the scanner.
