Advanced Spine Care to Support Your Every Move

Your spine supports everything you do — from standing tall to staying active. When pain develops, it can disrupt comfort and limit mobility. OrthoNY spine specialists use advanced diagnostics and proven treatment options to evaluate and care for a range of spinal conditions.

We treat a full range of cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine issues, including herniated discs, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, scoliosis, degenerative disc disease, sciatica, vertebral compression fractures, and spinal instability. Our evaluation includes a review of your medical history, a physical exam, and advanced imaging such as MRI, CT, or EMG to identify nerve compression or structural issues.

Treatment begins conservatively, focusing on physical therapy, pain management, bracing, and targeted injections such as epidural steroid treatments. With offices across Albany, Clifton Park, Schenectady, Saratoga, Glens Falls, and other Capital Region locations, OrthoNY makes expert spine care accessible close to home. When surgery becomes necessary, our providers perform minimally invasive procedures such as microdiscectomy, laminectomy, and spinal fusion, all performed with modern techniques such as computer navigation in state-of-the-art surgical facilities. Care continues with coordinated follow-up, working alongside physical therapy and pain management teams to support recovery.

Dr. Dixon found an issue with my daughter’s foot and had her booked for surgical repair all within 1 month. She’d suffered in pain for years and seen several Dr’s at a different local office with no answers until we saw Dr. Dixon. I’m so very thankful for his help, her surgery went well and she is on the road to recovery. We highly reccomend him and can not thank him enough. As for the rest of the staff at Ortho NY and their Surgical Center, they have all been so kind, helpful and truly amazing. The nurses were so wonderful keeping my daughters spirits up as she got nervous and were helpful from start to finish. Thank you all ❤️

Frequently Asked Questions

What spinal problems does OrthoNY treat?

OrthoNY treats a range of spine conditions, including herniated discs, spinal stenosis, sciatica, spondylolisthesis, degenerative disc disease, scoliosis, vertebral fractures, and spinal instability. Patients often come for neck pain or low back pain, numbness or tingling in the arms or legs, weakness, and difficulty walking or standing. We begin with a thorough evaluation, including a review of your medical history, physical exam, and appropriate imaging — X-rays are used for evaluation of global alignment and disk degeneration, MRI for evaluation of nerve compression, CT for fractures and detailed bone analysis, and EMG for nerve function. We develop patient-specific plans that may include physical therapy, injections, bracing, or surgical options. Surgical procedures range from minimally invasive discectomy and laminectomy to minimally invasive spinal fusion. Each treatment is personally tailored to the patient’s individual pathology, goals,  lifestyle, and overall health.

When should I see a specialist for spinal pain?

You should consider seeing a pain management specialist if you experience chronic back or neck pain lasting more than six weeks, nerve symptoms such as numbness, tingling, or weakness in your arms or legs, pain that radiates down your limbs, unexplained weight loss or fever, difficulty walking, or bladder or bowel changes. You should see one of our spine surgeons if you have already tried physical therapy, chiropractics, and/or pain management injections and have had pain lasting for more than 6 weeks to 3 months.  If you had trauma or a fall, early evaluation is also important. OrthoNY spine specialists in Albany, Clifton Park, Delmar, Glens Falls, NY, Malta, Saratoga, and Schenectady, NY, provide prompt evaluations to identify the exact cause and develop treatment plans. Early diagnosis can improve outcomes, reduce long-term issues, and avoid unnecessary surgery.

What non-surgical spine care is available?

OrthoNY’s non-surgical spine care includes physical therapy to reduce back/neck pain, strengthen core muscles, improve flexibility, and correct posture. We provide medication management to reduce pain and inflammation, along with precision image-guided injections like epidural steroids and facet joint blocks that target the precise source of your discomfort. For spinal support, we may prescribe bracing. Patients may benefit from radiofrequency ablation for chronic facet pain. These treatments are designed to relieve pain and improve function without surgery. If symptoms persist, we reassess and may recommend minimally invasive procedures combined with rehab.

What surgical options are available for spine conditions?

If initial care doesn’t resolve the issue, OrthoNY offers surgical treatments such as microdiscectomy to remove herniated discs, laminectomy to decompress the spinal canal, and minimally invasive spinal fusion to stabilize spine segments. These procedures are performed with minimally invasive techniques to minimize tissue damage and speed recovery. We also perform kyphoplasty for vertebral compression fractures. Surgery takes place in our advanced surgical suites located in Albany and Clifton Park, NY. Each procedure is personalized based on your health, goals, and surgical risks. Our surgeons align treatment with rehab specialists to guide you through a safe and efficient recovery.

How long is the recovery process after spine treatment?

Recovery varies depending on procedure type. After non-surgical care or injections, most patients experience pain relief and return to normal activity rapidly.  The majority of our lumbar microdiskectomy and laminectomy cases as well as cervical fusions are performed in our surgery centers as an outpatient discharging patient to the comfort of their own home on the same day as surgery. After minimally invasive lumbar spine fusion performed in the hospital patients are up and walking around that afternoon and will go home the same day or after just one night in the hospital. Full recovery can take several weeks to a few months, depending on the procedure.

Can OrthoNY help athletes with spine injury prevention?

Yes. OrthoNY physical therapists offer spine care tailored to athletes and active individuals. We evaluate biomechanics, posture, and core strength to identify risk factors and provide customized physical therapy and sport-specific conditioning to prevent injury. Patients with disc herniation, spondylolisthesis, or spinal stenosis are treated with conservative care and targeted exercise programs. If surgery is required, we guide recovery through structured return-to-sport protocols designed to safely rebuild strength, mobility, and performance. Athletes from local teams, runners, and fitness enthusiasts in New York’s Capital Region rely on OrthoNY for expert spine-focused performance care.

Where can I find spine doctors in the Capital Region?

Patients can access OrthoNY spine doctors at multiple locations, including Albany, Clifton Park, Schenectady, Saratoga, Glens Falls, and other Capital Region offices. These sites provide advanced diagnostics, non-surgical care, and surgical options, based on the patient’s needs.
