About Rebecca

Rebecca VanWie graduated from Cornell University with a bachelors degree in Human Biology, Health, and Society. After graduation, she worked as an EMT before pursuing her masters degree in Physician Assistant Studies at Albany Medical College.

She is a board certified Physician Assistant in New York State. She began her career working in the emergency room before transitioning to orthopedics. She joined OrthoNY in 2019, working with Dr. Laura Scordino on the hand and upper extremity in both the office and operating room.

Outside of work, Rebecca enjoys camping, skiing, and board games with family and friends.

Rebecca with Dr. Scordino is extremely knowledgeable, takes her time with her patients, and is caring. She saw my son for a potential broken arm, and pointed out some fluid that might have been trapped, making it hurt, even though it was not broken, which she proved with x-rays. I rely heavily on this office, because they never tell you something confidently saying that they are 120% sure if they are not. Unlike many other doctors at OrthoNY, they never act, aloof, and like they know more than everyone else there. I highly recommend.

Rebecca did amazing- not great news, told me I can have Cortizone shot, but eventually I need a shoulder replacement. I love Rebecca, very professional and detailed , answered all my questions showed me examples and everything that I need to be aware of if I do go with the shoulder replacement, it will be probably spring or fall next year 2027. My shoulders already starting to feel a little bit better because of the shot and I take ibuprofen 800 as well, but the rotator cuff has a tear that is completely off of the shoulder cannot be repaired Has to be replaced.

It’s not often that I feel seen by a doctor or a medical professional. Not to sound cliché but I’ve always been dismissed by medical professionals and me being young Black judged by the way I dress to them it seems like I’m just coming complaining for attention or to get drugs it’s always some type of judgment and I’m sent out with little to no help this has happened so often that I am now a customer at 29 years old to not going to the doctor for any reason female doctors male doctors clinics I haven’t gone for a regular business my whole life and the older I got the less high because of the treatment I received as a young adult on my own but not this woman not Rebecca I felt seen I told her what was wrong and she cared she took the time to talk to me to listen to me so physically make sure that I was OK I didn’t feel like another number I felt like a patient and then I wasn’t in the way that she was actually there for me and I appreciate this might sound long and drab but no way AI bullshit Miss Rebecca is a great doctor
