A board-certified total joint surgeon, Dr. Frank Congiusta was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. He received his undergraduate degree from Columbia University where he majored in Biology and played on the football team for four years. He then attended Albany Medical College, graduating in 2000 with honors. He stayed on at Albany Medical Center where he completed his Orthopaedic Surgical Residency. As a resident he developed a special interest in total hip and knee replacements. He then trained at the Anderson Orthopaedic Institute in Alexandria, Virginia where he received his fellowship training in total joint replacements under the guidance of world renowned joint replacement surgeons.

Dr. Congiusta’s present areas of interest include unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (or partial knee replacement), alternative bearing surfaces in total hip replacement (which will hopefully increase how long the replacement lasts, particularly in younger patients), minimally invasive techniques, aggressive post-operative physical rehabilitation to return total joint patients to activities as quickly as possible and complex reconstructive procedures (including revision procedures).

He has also been recently trained in a new procedure called the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing procedure. Hip Resurfacing is a type of hip replacement which replaces the two surfaces of the hip joint while conserving bone. Dr. Congiusta has served as Chairman of the Board of the Northeastern New York Chapter of the Arthritis Association, He currently serves on the Executive Committee of OrthoNY, and is the Chairman of Orthopaedic Surgery at St. Peter’s Hospital.
