About Dr. LeVasseur

Dr. LeVasseur is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in comprehensive care of the shoulder and elbow. He is also trained in general orthopedic surgery. He is an expert in minimally invasive arthroscopic and open surgeries of the shoulder and elbow. He has expertise in primary and revision shoulder replacement, rotator cuff repairs, shoulder stabilization, nonoperative and operative fracture management, and many other degenerative, traumatic, or sports-related injuries involving the shoulder and elbow.

Dr. LeVasseur grew up in Binghamton, NY. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Rochester, majoring in Biomedical Engineering, with a concentration in Biomechanics. He attended SUNY Upstate Medical University, where he was elected to the esteemed Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) national honors society. He then completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Connecticut. He also completed a one-year research fellowship at the University of Connecticut, focusing on conditions of the shoulder and elbow including distal biceps repair, rotator cuff repair, and others. His interests in shoulder and elbow surgery led him to the prestigious Columbia University, where he completed one year of subspecialty training in shoulder and elbow surgery, training with nationally and internationally known experts in the field. This fellowship, founded in 1977 by Dr. Charles S. Neer II, is the oldest and most prestigious fellowship of its kind in the world, having trained hundreds of national and international leaders in the field of shoulder and elbow surgery. During his fellowship, Dr. LeVasseur was involved in the care of elite athletes, including the New York Yankees.

Dr. LeVasseur has a strong interest in clinical and biomechanical research. He is widely published and has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed journal articles, several textbook chapters, and multiple surgical videos on the shoulder, elbow, and other topics in sports medicine. He has also presented at multiple regional and national conferences. He is a member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) society.

Dr. LeVasseur specializes in operative and nonoperative treatment of shoulder and elbow injuries in patients and athletes of all ages. He is an expert in minimally invasive arthroscopic and open surgery of the shoulder and elbow. In particular, Dr. LeVasseur specializes in advanced shoulder and elbow reconstructive surgery including joint replacements, fracture care, rotator cuff repair, shoulder instability, elbow arthroscopy, and elbow ligament repair and reconstruction. He has a conservative approach to patient care and utilizes advanced imaging modalities and updated technologies to create personalized treatment plans for his patients.

His surgical practice focuses primarily on the following:

• Anatomic and reverse total shoulder replacement
• Revision shoulder replacement
• Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and biologic augmentation
• Arthroscopic and complex open shoulder instability (e.g. labral repair, remplissage, Latarjet, distal tibia allograft reconstruction, etc.)
• Tendon repairs and transfers of the shoulder and elbow (e.g. pectoralis major repair, distal biceps repair, lower trapezius transfer, etc.)
• Arthroscopic and open treatment of acromioclavicular joint injuries
• Shoulder and elbow fractures (clavicle/collar bone, humerus, radial head, olecranon, etc.)
• Throwing injuries (e.g. Elbow UCL/Tommy John)
• Medial and lateral epicondylitis
• Ulnar neuropathy

Outside of work, Dr. LeVasseur loves to spend time with his wife, growing family, and dog. He also enjoys hiking, kayaking, golfing, and fishing.
