About Dr. Polishchuk
Dr. Polishchuk is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, with subspecialty in Adult Reconstructive Surgery. He is board certified in Orthopedic Surgery, specializing in Hip and Knee Reconstruction with a focus on minimally invasive primary hip and knee replacement surgery. Dr. Polishchuk is the Department Chair and Chief of Orthopedics Surgery at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY. He is also the Director of Outpatient Arthroplasty Surgery at OrthoNY Surgical Suites.
Dr. Polishchuk did his fellowship training in hip and knee replacement at Columbia University Medical Center (New York, NY). During his fellowship, he trained both in primary as well as revision hip and knee replacement surgery. Although partial knee replacement was part of his training, he prefers total knee replacement, as a more reliable and long-term solution to knee arthritis. He was specifically trained in, and is an expert in the posterior approach for hip replacement surgery.
Dr. Polishchuk uses the latest minimally invasive techniques in both hip and knee replacement surgery, as well as the latest pain management techniques to make post-operative recovery faster and more tolerable. His patients are able to go home the same day of surgery, avoiding hospitalization. Selection for this program is rigorous, and safety is the primary goal in the selection process. Those who are appropriate for this accelerated discharge program are some of the happiest patients.
Dr. Polishchuk prefers to perform primary hip and knee replacement surgery at our outpatient surgery center, specializing in total hip and total knee replacement surgery. This outpatient program includes case managers guiding patients through the entire process. It allows patients to avoid hospital admission and recover in the comfort of their own home.
Dr. Polishchuk has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and has presented his research at national orthopedic meetings. He is currently focused on the patient care portion of his career, seeing patients in the office several days a week and doing surgery the rest of the time.
Dr. Polishchuk believes in a conservative approach to hip and knee problems, with surgery considered the last resort. He works with patients to come up with individualized plans of treatment, including both non-operative as well as operative management.
Dr. Polishchuk does most of his surgeries at our own outpatient ambulatory surgery center, and for those that need closer medical attention, at Ellis Hospital.
