At OrthoNY, we understand the competitive nature of those participating in sports, and we understand that occasionally injuries will occur in the heat of competition. Our sports medicine team is ready to help you prevent and recover from injuries of all types whether you are a world-class athlete, an individual who occasionally participates in sports or just slightly active.
We specialize in the rehabilitation of injuries to every major joint, including the knee, ankle, shoulder, and elbow. We also provide rehabilitation to those individuals with work related injuries.
Our primary concern at OrthoNY is to return the patient to activities of daily living as soon as safely possible. It is also our goal to teach each patient how and why they were injured, and to prevent the injury from reoccurring. Special emphasis is placed on Home Exercise Programs (HEP). The HEP teaches the patients about strengthening and flexibility specific to their injury. It also gives detailed information on functional progressions and injury prevention. The HEP is very cost effective. It shortens the amount of formal physical therapy, saving the patient time and money.
At OrthoNY, we care about your ability to get back in the game
We understand the nature of sports related injuries and how to treat them. Our sports medicine specialists are ready to help by providing:
- Relief from acute pain
- Non-surgical treatment
- Minimally invasive surgical treatment
Our highly skilled sports medicine specialists, surgeons and pain management specialists use the latest in minimally invasive and conventional surgical procedures together with non-surgical intervention. We work as a team to help provide the best outcomes possible and ensure a rapid return to sports related or physical activities.
Treating the whole patient
As a leading whole orthopaedic care provider, OrthoNY sports medicine specialists consider each patient unique and work with them to understand their special needs and concerns. We treat the whole patient by getting to know them as we gather insights and information to help us select an appropriate course of treatment.
Irrespective of whether or not treatment requires surgery, as a comprehensive orthopaedic care provider, we work together as a team to address all patient needs. This team approach enables us to discuss, assess, diagnose and treat sports related conditions and injuries with confidence and care. To aid in this process all of our sites have x-ray and MRI facilities to determine the best course of action. Our urgent care services located in both Albany and Malta, Route 9, are available for walk-in care for orthopaedic injuries sustained during sporting or other activities. Please note – the last patient check-in is 15 minutes prior to the posted closing.

Maintenance and wellness program
Our aftercare program is designed so that the patient reaches their recovery goals. In many instances most insurance plans will only pay for 30 visits. In some cases this not enough for patients to return to an active lifestyle. Patients can enroll in the program when formal physical therapy benefits have run out. Patients will have the opportunity to continue their rehabilitation program under the supervision of trained staff who understands their injury. Health and wellness programs are also available. Individuals that want an expert to guide them through a fitness and wellness program will have to have get approval from their family physician before starting a formal fitness program with us. Those individuals will also go through a fitness evaluation and an orthopaedic screening done on site. The cost of both programs is $50.00 a month and is available to current patients who want to continue their rehabilitation, family members of current patients, past patients and the general public.
